Antique hand-tinted albumen photo of a room constructed by a Japanese Emperor in the Toshogu Shrine complex. The term mikado is an old outdated Japanese word meaning Emperor, no longer in common use. Albumen prints like this one were taken in black and white, with color being added later by hand tinting specific sections of the photo.
